Eligible Cars And Preparation
Classic cars made before 31st December 1981 are eligible for future Three Castles events - no special modifications are needed, though for ease in following the roadbook and particularly in doing regularity sections we do strongly recommend fitting a simple trip meter, such as an entry-level Brantz 2 or Brantz Retrotrip. These start from around £130. You can also fit the authentic period equipment, for a price (a second hand 1960s Halda Twinmaster may cost £1,000, if you can find one) and you can see an interesting article recently published in and © Octane magazine on this subject via the link on the right.
Each car competes in its appropriate age category and class and the driving tests are decided on class index - older cars do just as well as more recent ones and previous events have been won outright by a Ford Anglia, a Healey 3000, an MGA, a Porsche 911, a Sunbeam 20HP, a BMW 3.0CSL and an MG TD - none of them under 35 years old.
