Day Three started sunny and bright, making spirits high on the promenade at Llandudno. First away at seven thirty, the cars in the running order from the Day Two results, was Graham Walker and Sean Toohey's Elan. With the battle for the lead engaged on the road the remaining cars assembled for what promised to be a long and absorbing day including a visit to Portmeirion. There were two overnight retirements, neither of them directly attributable to car issues, which meant John Lomas’ Riley (4) and the Aston Martin (51) did not take the start. Regrettably, the 1939 Ford resisted timely repair. The Ford had driven up to Llandudno under its own power but was leaving Paul Day and Alun Jones to return to Sussex by other means. The Ford Thunderbird, a clear favourite with spectators everywhere the rally has stopped, developed a misfire yesterday and Michael and Karol Bailey sadly joined the retirements this morning.
The day started with a regularity on the Orme before a couple of tests including one at Parc Faenol. Another regularity took competitors to Parc Glasfryn and the first of two tests on the kart track there. The next stop is a halt at Plas Heli, the Welsh National Sailing Academy on the Llyn Peninsula. Lunch would come at Portmeririon but that would be after a second test at Parc Glasfryn between two more regularities.
