Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky extends its help as a Three Castles supporter in 2025 with a "take over" of Prologue Day on June 3rd. Three Castles participants will receive a welcome table gift of a Welsh Whisky miniature at the Penderyn Welcome Dinner. Penderyn prizes will also be awarded that evening for the Penderyn Prologue, while the Penderyn Team Award will continue to support the Three Castles Trial itself. In addition, a special tasting tour at the new distillery will be arranged exclusively for Three Castles entrants. For more than twenty years now Penderyn Distillery has been working from its first base in the Brecon Beacons to bring back the spirit of single malt whisky to Wales. Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky is internationally recognised, in 2020 taking its biggest-ever gold medal haul at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Penderyn is now producing more of its liquid gold at a new £5 million distillery in Llandudno, after a stunning refurbishment of the Grade II listed Old Board School that stands in Lloyd Street in the heart of the town. A new Faraday still (unique to Penderyn) was set to work in 2021 by Penderyn's Commissioning Distiller, Bethan Morgans. It focuses on peated barley single malt whisky for the first time in Penderyn history, using water from springs on the Great Orme headland.
Whisky, by law, has to mature in a cask for three years and a day before it can be called whisky, so we will only have to wait a little longer now to taste this new expression - the first whisky made in Llandudno joined the Penderyn reserves in August 2024. Even as a peated whisky, it will have Penderyn’s characteristics; these are light, fruity and flavoursome whiskies. And for now, there are plenty of other terrific Penderyn expressions in the Tasting Bar and shop at Lloyd Street (pictured above), all of which are great gifts “made in Wales”.
